Range of purpose:
Purpose for YouTube is to entertain this is due to its video format. On YouTube people upload videos for people to watch of all different interests. This platform also allows people to follow different YouTubers so they can look at other videos they have made. You can also follow and like peoples videos so they creators know what you like to see. You can also be educated on YouTube as there are videos on different themes such as maths and science so you can be educated. There are advert on YouTube within the videos these can be skipped or you might have to watch them this allows for the company to have a short video to advertise to the people watching that video.

You can access YouTube on different platforms such as your phone, laptops and iPad this means it’s very easily accessible on the go and allows you to watch wherever you are. It is very easy to navigate by having a big search bar and a tab where you can see your account, your videos, what you have last watched and any playlists you may have made. You can also sign up easily for free and have a YouTube account this means you can follow your favourite creators and be notified when they post, by having an account you can comment, like and subscribe.

YouTube’s main focus is video there are two types of video YouTube shorts which are short formed content which is up to about 3 minutes this content you can scroll on your phone and watch quickly. The other type of video is the long formed content which is on peoples account which can be as long as they want. They have text along the side as well as text on the top which are tailored to what they think your interested in this means you can easily see what you want to watch. The image is larger than the text this is done to entice the audience about the video these images are showing the viewer what the video is about and as a result intrigue the audience. They have icons which pop up on videos that are new so they stand out to you as new content which you might want to watch, this intrigues the audience. YouTube allows you to have channel art as well as profile picture so you can express you and your page however you want to fit your aesthetic. They have play control which allow you to skip forwards and backwards and pause and play at any time. They have a homepage feed which allows you to see videos related to your history as well as trending tab which shows top 100 videos at the moment so you can be introduced to new content.

One limitation on YouTube is misinformation this means content contains facts which aren’t correct. This is a problem on YouTube as anyone can create an account for free and upload videos containing any information they want, if this information is incorrect there’s no restrictions against it and as a result people can start to believ incorrect information.
Another limitation on YouTube is you cannot access it without Wi-Fi or data this means that it’s not always accessible to watch wherever you are which makes it less user friendly. The only way you can watch it without Wi-Fi is if you have a YouTube premium account this is very expensive and as a result makes people go elsewhere to watch content.

Exposure to harmful content - on YouTube people can lie about their age and create an adult account this can lead them being exposed to harmful or traumatic content at a young age. This could leave people traumatised due to illegal or inappropriate content. This is a legal issue as it’s hard to regulate.
Ethical issues:
Algorithmic information - YouTube’s algorithms can lead to things such as echo chambers this is where you see similar content from the same point of view and you never see content formed from other perspectives. This is an ethical issue as its hard can lead to people having biases towards certain groups such as ethnicities or political group which causes issues in society
Mental health - YouTube usage can lead to signs of loneliness, depression and or anxiety, this si due to YouTube filtering your content to fit what you like watching and if someone is searching negative things they will continue to pop up which can increase someone’s negative outlook on life.

The purpose of amazon is to advertise this website and app promotes all the products it contains and advertises them to intrigue viewers. It advertises a range of products such as pens to bed frames to football. This allows for a wide range of viewers as it can interest a range of people who want a range of different items. This platform also allows fro people to make an account this way they can save products they might want to purchase in the future. Their main purpose it to be the most helpful to their customers as possible and providing as many products as they can on one website so people don't have to look elsewhere.

Ethical:
Sensitive content - some shows that they show on Netflix can show harmful and traumatic topics such as suicide and murder as well as strong language Netflix need to be mindful and make sure that they have age ratings and warning of what the content involves to warn people before they watch so they dont traumatise people.
Children’s access to adult content- if there aren’t parental controls in place inappropriate content can come up on search and children can use an adult account to watch harmful content this can leave a child with trauma. Due to this Netflix need to ensure they have a child friendly account option from parents to use to keep their children safe.
