Task 4: Planning the original comic (M1 U9 & D1 U9)

M1 (U9):

Micro Structures:

In my comic I have used lots of micro structures, one of the structures I have used is camera shots. An example of this is using an over the shoulder, this shot allows the audience to see from the point of view of  the character. In my comic Doctor Destroyer is looking at Sophie and we are able to see from his point of view which allows for a change of perspective to make the comic more interesting. Another example, is extreme close up this allows for better understanding of facial expressions and how they are feeling so audience can sympathise with characters.  Another structure I have used is facial expression from example one of my panels is and extreme close up of Sophie’s face you can see her furrowed brows this shows that she is frustrated. Another example of micro structures is location, one location I used is a forest this is the main location this is vital to the comic as the villain is destroying the forest and that is the disruption to equilibrium and without it the narrative wouldn’t make sense.

Macro Structures:

In my comic I have used Todorov's narrative structure to help with the storytelling of my comic. In Todorov's narrative structure there are five stages which are equilibrium, disruption to equilibrium, recognition, attempt to repair and new equilibrium. The equilibrium in my comic is when Sophie and Spike are happily flying through space in their spaceship, the disruption comes from the alert signal and the king of a planet asking for their help. The recognition is when Sophie and Spike land on the planet and assess what has happened, the attempt to repair is when they fight the fire robots, and finally the new equilibrium would be the repaired planet but I only need to create 5 pages of my comic and therefore my story is unfinished. I also use Propp’s theory this helps audience to understand and pick out typical character types for example hero or villain. In my comic Sophie is my hero as she saves the day, Doctor Destroyer is my villain, Spike is the helper and the dispatcher is the King and the villager that tell them what has happened and asks for their help.

Storyboard:

D1 (U9):

One way I could further the development of the main character in future stories across different media formats is through a video game. I would create my video game as a POV/ story mode type game, this would mean that the player would play as my main character Sophie. In the video game you would be able to choose what happens in your game with different options and in the end of each level you would have to defeat the villain in order to save the planet. This would be a further development of the comic as aft each planet she saves she would remember things that help her fight future plants and as she ages she would become more mature. I would give the game an age rating on PEGI of a 12 as the next rating up would be a 16 and the game isn’t that graphic, the game would have mild to rarely any mature language and content this would mean it would fit into the 12 rating. The game would also show fight scenes but as its a 12 rating I need to ensure that the content made isn’t that graphic and therefore doesn’t show gore and as a result meats the regulations for a 12 rated game. The game would be very affordable as it needs to be able to be bought by the kids of ages 12-16 and therefore needs to be a reasonable price, I would say it would cost around 12.99 as this is reasonable and still earns a profit for the making and creation of the game itself. The genre I would choose for this game would be action and adventure as they would be playing as the main character Sophie and would be travelling through space and battening villains to save planets. One of the sub genres would be sci-fi as when they travel through space they will be seeing all iconography thats common to that genre such as spaceships, aliens and planets. This would all link to my comic as it follows the same storyline of Sophie flying through space defeating villains and saving planets. A type of publisher I would use is a publisher like Adventure Soft, they are a games publisher who are known for adventure and story mode games for a 12 rated audience and therefore would meet my criteria as I want to create a story mode adventure game.

Another way I could further the development of my main character in future stories across different media formats is through an animated TV series. I would create my animated series to follow the same narrative structure as my comic book, this would mean that my series would show my main character Sophie travelling through space with her pet sidekick spike helping defeat villains and save planets as hers was destroyed and she wants to prevent that from happening again. This would be a further development from my comic as it would show her going through all the planets and helping save them and each of the planets would help her find out more about her old planet. My main character would be Sophie just like the comic and she would be the focus of every episode, the series would show the choices she makes and how she comes up with ways to defeat villains and save planes. My target audience would be slightly younger than my comic such as 10- 15 and would be on a children’s tv streaming service and or channel, this is because its an animated series and would be entertaining and the storyline would fit that age group this would widen my target audience and increase my profitability. I would choose for my series to be on a streaming site this would mean that the money would come from peoples subscriptions they buy as well as how many times people view my series, I would also earn money from people paying to add adverts in between breaks of my show. The genre of my series would be action and adventure as it shows my main character travelling through space which would be adventure as they visit new planets as well as action as they defeat villains. It would also have a sub-genre of sci-fi as it would have all common iconography of that genre such as spaceships, aliens and planets. I would use a publisher such as Cartoon Network studios as they are known for making very successful action adventure hybrid shows that also have sub genres of sci-fi included which is exactly what I need.
